Unlike Western evil demons, Dokebi in Korean beliefs are more like mischievous spirits, goblins or creatures with magical powers. They often have fearsome faces with large teeth and horns, but are known for playing pranks on people, challenging them to fights (ssirum) or rewarding the good and punishing the greedy. The poster shows a series of traditional decorative masks and ornaments with Dokebi faces, which were used in the past on roofs and tiles to scare away real evil forces.
