( the small print next to the title) In traditional Korea, the doors and windows of houses (hanok) were made of wooden bars covered with thick but translucent paper. A wedding custom called “Sinbang humchigi” (peeking into the bridal chamber) involved the bride and groom’s friends and neighbors secretly dipping their fingers in saliva to silently poke a small hole in the paper of the door and watch what was going on inside. The holes you see in the poster’s door are the result of these “peeks.”
